Tyne Valley MTB Cycling Blog
On Saturday 9 club members cycled Day 1 of the Esk 2 Esk Road road route between Eskdale (Ravenglass) and Esk Valley (Whitby) passing through 3 National Parks and crossing the Vale of York.
After overnighting in Muncaster Castle coachman's quarters (a single room was a stupid price), our route choice on Day 1 took us on a cunning circuit around the south of the Lake District crossing the Leven Estuary at Greenodd en route to Oxenholme where 6 of us stayed in the Station Inn which we highly recommend . We rode 85 km (53 miles) ascending a total of 2000 m which involved some stonking ascents and fabulous descents. The weather was cold but sunny and the views were amazing. Our PM stop in Julie's excellent Cartmel Coffee shop was well earned. Note the Kendal canal bridge no longer in use.
