On Sunday 9 club members cycled Day 3 of the Esk2Esk Road road route between Eskdale (Ravenglass) and Esk Valley (Whitby) passing through 3 National Parks and crossing the Vale of York after 6 of us stayed in the excellent youth hostel in Osmotherley.

We set of in the dry but after popping into the highly recommend Rusty Bike in Swainby to see owner John, drizzle turned to rain so the Kildale tearoom was a most welcome sight. The weather soon picked up not long after the Esk Valley hills reared up and boy – did they rear! It was mid pm when we dropped into Whitby packed with bank holiday visitors too ugly to photograph. We ate fish n chips on the harbour side and the animations in the pic were to warn me seagulls were helping themselves to mine whilst I took the photo. 276 km (176 miles) and 5,330 m of total ascent - great ride, great company and a great sense of achievement followed by a great night’s sleep.
