7 club members cycled the Southern Upland Way road route which is partly signed and yet to be finalised. We set off from Portpatrick on Saturday in dreek mist which stayed until mid pm and not the heat wave in England.
Day 2 - 75.6 miles (122 km), Ascent 5,108 ft (1,557 m) Hours in saddle 5 hrs 30 mins
Overcast at first but it wasn’t long before the sun broke through. Sometimes a tail wind, sometimes a head wind but always fabulous scenery. The main ascent was 20% and a real stonker but what views it gave us before an amazing descent – just one of many. The last pic shows Walkerburn where we stayed that night.
Day 3 - 66.5 miles (107 km), Ascent 4,941 ft (1,506 m) Hours in saddle 5 hrs 24 mins.
Wall to wall sunshine today, more great scenery all the way to the east coast of Scotland finishing at Dunbar harbour rounded off with fish n chips. An excellent route, amazing scenery and great company. Very many thanks to Geoff our 8th team member and support driver. The ‘pit’ was where 2 hours from the end we sat down to a fantastic spread of goodies kindly prepared for us by good friends Walter and Ann
